Rodial, a cult British line with aggressively cheeky ranges such as Dragon’s Blood, Cougar Skin and Glamoxy Snake Serum, launched a surprisingly demure debut makeup collection. Focusing on contouring and sculpting, Rodial’s new 19-product makeup line stays in the realm of neutral tones, although it could use a few extra shades to satisfy a broader range of skin colours.

I haven’t been a serious disciple of hardcore contouring but I do like adding a little definition to my bone structure. What I love about the Instaglam Compact Deluxe Contour Powder ($75) is that it’s completely matte (unlike a bronzer) and therefore really subtle. (Fun fact from Rodial’s founder Maria Hatzistefanis: the gorgeous compact is made with the same leather as Hermès handbags.) The Instaglam Highlighter ($36) pen is comparable to YSL’s famous Touche Éclat, perhaps a little creamier.

Having released the stellar Glamstick Lip Butter collection last year, Rodial took the eye game pretty seriously. A woman after my own heart, Hatzistefanis describes Rodial’s eye inspiration as the “London look: a little bit smudgy and lived in.” The Eye Sculpt ($34) cream shadow is my favourite product from the new line, a near-perfect buildable formula that doesn’t flake over the course of the day. (Tip: If the shade matches, you can also use to define your eyebrows.) Adding to the eye drama is the Smokey Eye Pen ($21), a super blendable shortcut to serious smoke. Finally, since I despise wearing falsies, I’m a fan of any mascara that can give me soft, oversized lashes like the Glamolash Mascara XXL ($29).

Available in Canada at Murale this February.
