I Know What Boys Like
Since last year’s I Know What Boys Like men’s gift guide was such a hit — especially with the three guys that read this blog — I thought I’d make it a tradition. In some ways, I find menswear more exciting than womenswear, although probably because it’s a novelty to write about.
Filson Madrona Plaid Wool Bomber ($375 at Filson)
I love the sophisticated lumberjack look. It’s like Agent Cooper in Twin Peaks when he lost his badge and embraced plaid and fishing.
Roots Chukka Boots ($159 at Roots)
What guy doesn’t need desert boots? There is no better desert shoe than Roots’ re-issue of the 1973 original.
Bonus item: WANT L.E.V Hartsfield Travel Tote ($350 at Roden Gray)
This unisex organic cotton and leather weekender bag by WANT L.E.V is super stylish. So much so you’ll want to borrow it (and I’m sure he’ll let you).
Our Legacy Chambray Shirt $180 (at Neighbour)
Guys loves chambray shirts. They are soft and comfy, and they allow them to sport a Canadian Tuxedo without feeling like hicks (although there is some charm in that, I guess).
Alexander Olch Bow Tie ($138 at LARK)
Not every guy loves bow ties. But if he happens to be a rare breed, then you can’t go wrong with Alexander Olch, who GQ described as “the man that makes a perfect tie.”
Uniform Wares 100 Series watch ($165 at Neighbour)
He probably has at least a couple of watches, but one more doesn’t hurt. This simple one by Uniform Wares features a rubber strap for a very slick and sporty look.
Paul Smith scarf, toque and tree ornaments ($160; $135; $50)at Holt Renfrew)
Okay, okay, I’m being predictable now… But I don’t know a single guy that will say no to Paul Smith stripes. Maybe his tree needs a happy stripe ornament? Or maybe yours does?
J. CREW Slippers ($57.50 at J.CREW)
One of the sweetest things my husband did for me when we were dating is buy me a pair of slippers to use when I was over at his place. It’s kind of like having your own special drawer, but even sweeter. So, that’s an idea!
D.S & Durga Eau de Cologne ($99 at Old Faithful)
I love the way these D.S. & Durga colognes smell. There is an earthy element to them that feels like home.
Hudson’s Bay Company Book ($75 at The Bay)
Well, everyone loves The Bay and everyone will love this book that documents the iconic brand’s growth and development from its beginning to current day.
