Where would we be without lipstick? I never want to know. In honour of the International Lipstick Day, let’s reflect on these delightful Estée Lauder ads from the 1964 (I believe). This beautifully illustrated campaign was meant to highlight the utter importance of getting the lipstick name just right. “Honest, lucid, graphic descriptions—that’s what I was after,” Ms. Lauder said of her cleverly named shades. The names, coupled with the lovely drawings, took you around the world to exotic locales like Spain and Greece — stuff ’60s jetset dreams were made of.
