London Fashion Week S/S 2015: Into the Mesh
Usually not a lot of big trends come out of London as the designers showing are on the smaller scale, but that’s also the reason why I love looking at the collections, always finding underrated gems or well-kept British secrets. For example, Whistles has been around for over three decades, with over twenty stores in the UK, yet I’ve never really paid that much attention to the brand until I fell in love with its oversized teardrop mesh. Same goes with the understated Joseph, a long-time industry favourite retailer that just started catwalk presentations last season for their in-house label, with perfectly crumbling open-mesh knits. Then there’s Daniella Helayel with her delicate crochet constructions for Issa and Richard Nicoll‘s chunky knit lilac dress over a simple swimsuit (exactly what I want to wear to the beach). And, finally, my new discovery of the season, Serafina Sama behind Isa Arfen and her Palm Springs-inspired collection featuring a sexy (yes, boobs on show — #freethenipple) black mesh gown that should be lounging by the pool at sunset. Daring and breezy, I think we call it a trend.
