If you like to nerd out over the latest NARS product, then you might know Rebecca Perrin from her hilariously-named blog Spinsterish. This up-and-coming beauty writer earned her editorial cred as a Beauty Intern at FASHION, has been working as a makeup artist for nine years and is currently a Social Media Editor at The Kit. Needless to say, she knows her stuff!

It’s art that I create with my hands. Give me a pencil and I can barely draw a duck, but give me a contour brush with three shades of brown and I’ll change the shape of your face. I’m a passionate people watcher and have become very good at analyzing the intricate angles of every cheek, chin and brow bone. I love the massive difference a subtle brush stroke here, and a dab of colour there can make to someone’s face.

Linda Evangelista stood out to me during my youth — I liked how her facial attributes appeared to be pulled upwards by an extremely tight ponytail. I loved Niki Taylor and preferred her birthmark over Cindy Crawford’s, but have since resigned to beauties with less all-American, more unique characteristics like Lindsey Wixson and Frida Gustavsson.

Have never plucked my eyebrows. I would have also never been intimidated by the big, scary fashion industry and gone to beauty school to become the next Dick Page, Gucci Westman or Tom Pecheux. Maybe I still will…

2. Joe Fresh Lip Cream in ‘Baie Sauvage’. It’s a true violet lipstick — worn well with dark black sunglasses and a pair of denim cutoffs;

3. M.A.C Cremeblend Blush in ‘Something Special’. It’s an apricot-pink creme blush for a light, dewy complexion;

4. Make Up for Ever Uplight Face Luminizer Gel is the secret to youthful-looking skin. Use a medium-sized synthetic brush and sweep this beneath your eyes, along the bridge of your nose, and on your chin for a radiant complexion. It’s brilliant;

5. Winks Eyelash Boutique eyelash extensions. Seriously, I’m obsessed. I feel eyelash extensions feed me a sense of femininity that my short hair cut (sometimes) can’t.

True red if I’m feeling “conservative” or neon brights if I’m looking for fun. Right now I’m loving Sinful Colors in ‘Pink’ or Essie nail lacquer in ‘A-list’.

This is ages ago, but I remember the moment my student loans got deposited into my account because I ran out to buy a Versace lipgloss. I wouldn’t do that now; I’d rather spend a whack-load on Dermalogica Microfoliant or one-thousand bottles of Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray.

Pure + Simple Pitta Oil penetrates deep below my skin surface to treat dry, inflamed skin. For breakouts (which I frequent), I love Mario Badescu Buffering Lotion for quick treatment of brutal pimples.

I’ve fallen in love with The Body Creme by La Mer. I inherited the bottle and, after applying it, even sparingly, my skin looks and smells luxurious enough to afford a ticket on the Titanic. Using it is a once-in-a-while treat.

Yes, a light bronze cheek and pink lip looks pretty, but how about some creativity, celebs? I’d have fun with Scarlett Johansson — she’s got great lips to play up with pops of colour.
