Style Icon: Charlotte Gainsbourg

Some people are just born cool, and they don’t get much cooler than Charlotte Gainsbourg. In fact, at the moment when she was conceived, she was probably already cooler than you and I. Of course, she had the major advantage of being conceived by the musical genius Serge Gainsbourg and the ridiculously gorgeous actress/singer Jane Birkin, the coolest couple of the 1960s bar none. Her little sister is the stunning model/actress and face of Vanessa Bruno, Lou Doillon.

Far from a glitzy Hollywood star, Charlotte is a natural beauty that possesses the kind of ease and elegance that is only possible of someone that is extremely comfortable in their own skin. She is boyish and yet so feminine at the same time (this is very hard to pull off, trust me). She looks just as chic in a pair of jeans and cowboy boots as she does in Balenciaga and Chanel. Often wearing little to no makeup, it’s not that she doesn’t care about her appearance, it’s that she is that confident. Well, I would be too if I had groundbreaking film directors like Alejandro González Iñárritu and Michel Gondry and legendary musicians like Jarvis Cocker and Beck wanting to work with me while I inspired Balenciaga’s new collection and had a long time boyfriend and two beautiful children waiting for me at home. If Balenciaga’s new perfume somehow figured out how to bottle her particular brand of insouciance, I’m buying it!
